Four Wheeler Helmet | Kids ATV Helmet

Posted by on Mar 15, 2015 in Youth MX & ATV Gear | 0 comments

Hunting for a four wheeler helmet kids love? Broad selection includes toddler atv helmets, bigger kids four wheeler helmets, cheapest kids helmets & pricier ones too.

First off, I’d like to commend you on your decision to purchase a four wheeler helmet for your kid. Although it seems like such an obvious choice to you and I, many others choose to go without one.

And just in case you’re on the fence about it, keep in mind numerous kids receive head injuries every year, some very serious, due to crashes while riding their atv, or as a passenger, without a helmet. Because despite having four wheels, four wheelers can still tip over, riders can still fall off them, trees and other objects can still be crashed into, and other riders, and maybe even cars and trucks can still crash into your kid.

That’s why I always recommend going with the best possible protection you can afford.

Enough about that. It’s time to move on to the helmet list. I’ve got a pretty good collection of helmets from around the web lined up for you here, so let’s get to it.

I’m going to start you out with four popular low priced options. I call this class of helmets “mids”. They’re not the absolute cheapest, nor the most expensive four wheeler helmet kids have available to them, (I’ll get to those later), but because they’re on sale, on closeout, or just priced low, the following helmets are of good quality and are also quite affordable.

(If you’re looking for a girls helmet then you got to check this post too: Every Pink Youth ATV Helmet Available).

Taking into consideration the helmets price, design, and features, I’ll start the list with my favorite and move on down from there.

In the “mids” class, the

# 1 Four Wheeler Helmet Kids Love

is a D.O.T. approved helmet that boasts a surprisingly lightweight design of only 2.2lbs. It’s surprising because you normally have to spend a lot more money to get a helmet this light.

Another really nice feature you get with this kids motorcycle helmet is a massive amount of venting to keep your kid cool, 19 vents! The GMax GM46.2 Coil Kids Four Wheeler Helmet, comes in 3 different colorways.

Additional Features:

  • Redesigned mouthpiece provides more air flow, and is removable/washable
  • Adjustable roost deflector with venting
  • Large eyeport allows a variety of goggle styles to fit properly
  • Comfort liner, and cheek pads are also removable/washable

This four wheeler helmet normally sells for $89.95, but at the time of this articles writing it was on sale at Motorcycle Superstore for only $67.99! Check here to see if they still have it on sale.

GMax also has several other kids helmet designs which are also very affordable. I didn’t want to bog down this article by including every single one of them here. But, if you’d like to see the entire GMax line then check this out.

I’d also recommend you check out the selection at Chaparral Motorsports. Just follow that link, then type in “youth GMax helmets” into their search box.

They don’t have every GMax helmet in every size, but if you can find one you like in your size then you can get a better deal there for sure; several options at $49.97, and a few others at $54.97.

# 2 Four Wheeler Helmet For Kids

You get a lot for your money with this next helmet. With a retail price of only $59.99, the Vega Mojave Camo Kids Four Wheeler Helmet is a hit with parents, and kids alike.

Vega Mojave Camo Youth Four Wheeler Helmet, kids size

  • DOT and ECE certified
  • Ventilation channels take in air from the front and exit out the back for maximum cooling
  • Removable liner made of Wick-Dri fabric
  • Comes with a helmet bag
  • Some youth helmets are adult size helmet shells stuffed full of padding, but this helmets shell is specifically made for smaller riders. So there is no unnecessary bulk or added weight.

# 3 Youth Four Wheeler Helmet

The HJC Youth CL-XY Four Wheeler Helmet is currently on sale for $67.99 or or $71.99 for the matte black one.

As you can see these are some pretty simple looking designs. The good thing about this is it keeps the price down some, plus they’ll match any bike/gear colors.

HJC Kids Helmet Features:

  • The helmet shell is an advanced polycarbonate composite which is lightweight and durable.
  • Venting which HJC calls the “Advanced Channeling Ventilation System”, takes in air from the front of the helmet and ports it out the rear.
  • A removable/washable plush helmet liner
  • Large eyeport

If you didn’t care for these simple looking “designs”, then check out the rest of their helmet line here. They do cost about $12 more, but they look better in my opinion.

# 4 Four Wheeler Helmet, Kids Size

Alright, I’ve got one last value priced helmet to show you that’s in the $65-$70’ish price range. And it’s the LS2 MX426 Jump Kids Four Wheeler Helmet. It retails for $89.95, so this helmet is fairly cheap. Better still, it was on sale for $69.95 when I wrote this, so click here to see if it still is.

A four wheeler helmet kids use to protect their head.

This helmet features a lightweight composite shell which is great for kids. It only comes in this one color though, so you either like it or you don’t.

  • Has large air vents in chin and forehead to help keep you cool
  • Removable/Washable helmet liner
  • 5 Year warranty
  • DOT Appoved
  • Replaceable visor

Those were some of the cheapest four wheeler helmets available. But, if you found that even those helmets were a little more than you’re willing to spend right now, then this next group of kids atv helmets should be right up your alley.

In the past I couldn’t recommend the following helmets, or even show them on my site. I have changed my tune a bit since then.

Formerly, I reasoned that these helmets couldn’t possibly be DOT approved because they are so cheap. But as time went on I realized that just because they are cheap doesn’t necessarily mean they wouldn’t be approved by the DOT.

Perhaps they lowered their production costs by a means other than the use of shoddy materials. Or maybe they chose a slimmer profit margin in favor of a higher volume of sales.

Additionally, I concluded that just because I’m not willing to go quite as far as recommending these four wheeler helmets, I am willing to at least show them here and let people make their own decision.

And lastly I know that some people are so tight of funds that it’s get one of these helmets, or get nothing. And I’d hate for that to happen!

O.K., I’m done with my disclaimer. Now lets move on to a really cheap four wheeler helmet kids have available to them.

# 1 Cheap Four Wheeler Helmet Kids Use

is the TMS Motocross & A.T.V. helmet. With an astonishingly low price of only $29.74 + Free Shipping, you’d be hard pressed to find a cheaper helmet than this anywhere.

O.k. so you’re probably curious to know what your giving up, in terms of helmet features, to get a helmet this cheap. Well, as I eluded to before, you’ve got to wonder if this helmet would indeed be certified by the D.O.T. if they actually were to inspect it. Other than that…

This helmet is not as light as other helmets.

The roost deflector is fixed, and has no adjustment capabilities.

There is some venting, but not quite as good as other helmets.

On the plus side, however, the helmet liner is removable/washable. And these helmets do come with some fairly decent looking graphics, and a glossy-UV finish. Plus they’re SUPER cheap.

This helmet line also offers some pretty good combo deals where you get the helmet, a pair of gloves, and goggles too, for one low price.

The entire TMS helmet collection, and all the combo deals can be seen right here.

# 2 Cheap Four Wheeler Helmet For Kids

I really dig the look of this next helmet. And it appears to be a reasonably good helmet, for a really good price. Retail for this thing is $69.95, but it’s on sale right now for $34.95.

  • Weighs only 2.4lbs
  • Stainless steel D-Rings secure helmet
  • Padding is removable/washable
  • Comes with a helmet bag
  • D.O.T. certified
  • EPS foam provides impact absorption
  • ABS thermoplastic shell is impact resistant

See if it’s still on sale, and read 8 customer reviews here.

# 3 Super Cheap Four Wheeler Helmet

is the PGR X25 Youth Glory A.T.V. helmet. The retail price on this one is $64.99, but right now it’s on sale for $26.99 + shipping. It’s available in 6 different color schemes.

  • High quality gloss finish
  • Comes with a helmet bag
  • Lightweight and comfortable, liner/padding is removable and washable
  • D.O.T. approved

Over 20 people have reviewed this helmet, so you’ll probably want to check those reviews out, or purchase the helmet here.

# 4 Kids Four Wheeler Helmets

are Typhoon Helmets. Unlike some kids helmets these have a smaller shell size, not an adult size with extra padding. And they’re available in 7 different color schemes.

  • Removable / washable helmet liner
  • DOT certified
  • High gloss clear coat
  • Air vents
  • Roost deflector

Typhoon Helmets sell for $39.95, or $59.95 for the helmet, glove, and goggle combo deal. But then they stab you $18 for shipping. It’s still a good deal, but that shipping charge is a little irritating.

So far we’ve looked at some cheap four wheeler helmets, and some REALLY cheap helmets. And before we get to the toddler helmets I want to show you a few of the more popular, pricier, and in my opinion, more reliable, and feature rich helmets. These kids helmets are made by well known, and reputable companies, and are sold at the industries top retailers.

Once again, starting out with my personal favorite in this category, the

# 1 Four Wheeler Helmet, Kids Size

is the Answer Kids SNX 1.0 Faze Helmet. It’s Answers newest helmet offering, and it comes in 3 sharp looking designs. It features a full EPS liner which even runs through the chin bar for complete protection.

  • Injection molded ABS shell
  • Comfort liner is made of moisture wicking fabric, and is removable/washable
  • Numerous air intakes port out the rear for through flow venting
  • Meets D.O.T. specifications
  • Adjustable visor
  • Premium graphics with high gloss UV coating

This helmet retails for $109.95, but it might still be on sale right here.

# 2 Four Wheeler Helmet Kids Love

The Thor Youth Quadrant Four Wheeler Helmet is a bit unique due to it’s shell composition, which combines an ABS shell and a Polycarbonate shell together in one. It also features a dual-density polystyrene liner, which offers a more progressive impact absorption compared to standard EPS liners.

  • Over-sized forehead vents
  • A removable/washable plush comfort liner
  • Goggle strap holder on the rear of helmet
  • DOT and ECE safety standards met or exceeded!

This helmet can be purchased here for $109.95

# 3 Kids Four Wheeler Helmet

This next helmet, the Fly Youth Kinetic Impulse, is available in 6 different color schemes, including 4 with a high gloss finish, 2 with Matte finish, and each with premium graphics. And like the previous helmet, it also has the dual density foam liner.

A word of caution about the matte helmets. They are a bit more difficult to keep clean than the gloss finished helmets. It’s not much of an issue, at least not on matte black, but the matte white could be a hassle to keep looking good.

  • Poly alloy shell for increased durability, while remaining lightweight
  • Both the comfort liner and cheek pads can be removed for washing
  • 10 Large intake vents channel air out the rear of helmet to keep rider cool
  • Large mouth piece also assists in air flow
  • DOT approved

This helmet retails for $99.95, but it was on sale when I wrote this. Check here to see if it’s still on sale.

# 4 Four Wheeler Helmet For Kids

The One Industries Youth Atom Fizzle MIPS Helmet is the first, and only one, to incorporate this new safety technology into a motocross / four wheeler helmet design.

The MIPS or Multi-Directional Impact Protection System is a structure that goes between the EPS liner and the comfort liner. And it’s function is to absorb rotational forces caused by the head moving around erratically inside the helmet during a crash.

Other Features:

  • Polycarbonate alloy shell is strong, yet lightweight
  • Flow through ventilation
  • Protective crown for improved protection
  • Comfort liner and cheek pads can be removed and washed
  • Improved visibility, and goggles fit better too
  • Weighs only 2.54lbs
  • DOT & ECE certified protective equipment

This helmet sells for $169.99. If you’d like to purchase it, or take a closer look at it, click here.

And now on to our final class of helmets, Two adorable youth boys riding their battery powered atv's while wearing their youth atv helmets.which I had originally termed “toddler atv helmets”. But in fact they’re not atv helmets, per se. They’re bicycle helmets. Unfortunately there are no such thing as toddler atv helmets.

The thing is, toddlers necks are not strong enough to support the weight of a full face helmet like that. So the best thing you can do to protect your little one’s noggin is go with one of these helmets I have listed below.

Bicycle helmets are out of my normal area of expertise, but I did a lot of research, and came up with several very nice options which offer a lot of protection.

The # 1 Safest Helmet For Toddlers

is without a doubt the Lazer Nut’z and P’Nut helmets. Lazer is the oldest helmet manufacturer in the world, and takes great pride in delivering its customers not just helmets, but brain shields.

The P’Nut is the smaller helmet of the two and is for kids who’s head measures between 46 – 50 cm, or 18.11″ – 19.69″, while the Nut’z fits kids from 50 – 56 cm, or 19.69″ – 21.67″. It’s very important to measure your child’s head circumference just above the eyebrows and around the back of head before ordering this, or any other helmet!

Each helmet comes in two different models; standard, and with MIPS for maximum protection. You may recall the previous helmet on this list also had the MIPS.

But, in case you skipped that part, the Multi-Directional Impact Protection System is new technology which incorporates a special layer that goes between the typical protective foam padding, and the comfort liner. And its purpose is to absorb energy caused by the head sliding around inside the helmet during a crash. Studies have shown the MIPS to reduce brain injury by 30%.

Lazer is the only children’s bicycle helmet company to offer their helmet with the MIPS, which run about $20 more than their standard helmets. The P’Nut MIPS is only available in White, while the Nut’z helmet with MIPS is available in Black, White, Race Green, and Race Red.

  • In-Mold construction bonds the shell to the helmet for a safer, more durable helmet
  • Weight: 270 grams
  • Auto-fit retention system automatically adjusts to fit child’s head. Very nice feature!
  • CE certified protective equipment
  • Plenty of ventilation
  • Magnetic buckles allow children to easily fasten helmet straps
  • No exposed foam which can be damaged like on some competitor helmets

Up next is another high-end option, the

# 2 Safest Helmet For Toddlers

is the Uvex 2015 Quatro Junior Bicycle Helmet. This helmet is similar to the previous one, in that it also does not have any exposed foam. With the protective exterior shell covering all of the foam the helmet is more durable.

Plus, this one also has a system for getting a precise fit. Which is good because having a head circumference within the recommended range does not necessarily guarantee a proper fit. Properly fitted helmets are more comfortable, and stay in place better as well.

Uvex calls their fitting system the Advanced F.A.S. (Fast Adapting System). It’s a system of webbing which can be tailored to fit a variety of head shapes.

Other Features:

  • Superior In-Mold construction can take a lot of abuse
  • Single button release chin strap
  • Fits heads with a circumference of 50 – 55 cm
  • 9 Ventilation holes
  • Bug net
  • Fitting system gets rider an exact fit, and also allows for adjustment as your child grows

The Uvex Quatro sells for $59.95.

# 3 Toddler Helmet

is the Giro Raze Kids Helmet. This one is for toddlers who are just a little bit bigger. How much bigger? Well, you’re going to have to measure your kids head. I cant stress that enough.

A cloth tape measure is ideal, but if all you have is a ruler or yardstick, then use a piece of string to wrap around the head, then measure the piece of string.

One really nice thing about this kids helmet is it has a broad range of adjustment which fits heads from 50 – 57 centimeters, or 19.75″ – 22.5″. And it’s available in 10 awesome colors! Check’em out.

Other Features:

  • Acu Dial adjuster makes getting a custom fit quick and easy
  • In-Mold construction
  • Reflective rear decal
  • 22 Vents

The price of the Giro Raze helmets vary a bit, but they’re all well below retail, and start out at $28

We’re finally here! The end of the list of four wheeler helmets kids love! And the last helmet is one more excellent option for toddlers who aren’t quite ready for the weight of a full size four wheeler helmet with chin bar.

# 4 Helmet For Infants and Toddlers

is another great one by Giro, the Giro Me 2. It comes in a variety of vibrant colors and designs that little kids like. And fits head measurements between 48 – 52 centimeters.

As you can see, unlike the previous three helmets, this one has that exposed foam that I was telling you about. It’s still a good helmet, but little kids are rough with their stuff, so don’t be surprised if that foam ends up with dents and gouges in it.

  • Bug net
  • 6 Vents
  • Pinch-proof buckle
  • Reflective rear decal
  • A one hand adjustable dial for a custom fit

This helmets price also varies a little, but starts out at around $26. It’s an incredibly popular, and well liked helmet, as can be seen by the hundreds of positive reviews here.

Alternatively, I’d like to offer you one last suggestion to protect your child. If you don’t like the bicycle helmets, or have some other reason for insisting on a full face DOT approved helmet (perhaps your child will be riding as a passenger on your U.T.V. and the law in your state requires a DOT helmet), then this one’s for you.

Get the lightest kids four wheeler helmet you can find, (the lightest one I’ve ever seen was the very first helmet on this list, the GMax helmet. Which weighs only 2.2 lbs. Then, get a youth neck roll to help support the weight of the helmet. Depending on the size of your child you may have to stuff a hand towel, or something like that, inside the helmet to soak up any extra space for a snug fit.

Neck rolls are very difficult to find these days, since the advent of the neck brace, but Chaparral Motorsports still carries them. They also have a really good sale going on for those GMax helmets.

Hopefully you found this collection useful, but if there is something that didn’t make the list that you think should’ve, then please share it. Or maybe you have experience with one of these helmets and would like to comment on it. If so, please do so below.
